| About Wakulla County |
| Wakulla County consists of Sopchoppy, St. Marks and Crawfordville, which is the County Seat. As of 200, the population was 22,863. The total area is 736 square miles and 17.54% of it is water. Wakulla County was created in 1843, named for the Timucuan Indian word for "spring of water" or "mysterious water." The name refers to Wakulla Springs, its greatest natural attraction. It is one of the world's largest freshwater spring based in terms of depth and water flow. There are many forts in Wakulla County: Camp Lawson, Fort Many, Fort Number Five, Fort Stansbury, Fort Port Leon, James Island Post. They were all used between 1839 and 1843. |
